What is involved in a Castle VMware Capacity Planning exercise?

It’s important to understand that the entire Capacity Planning Exercise is undertaken and managed by Castle’s highly trained, fully VMware accredited Technical Consultants.

You should also be secure in the knowledge that you’re in safe hands, as our Technical Team has been involved in more successful VMware Capacity Planning exercises throughout the UK than any other Scottish company.

The final report produced by Castle is compiled using the VMware Capacity Planner tool, which provides analysis, planning and decision support to help you assess Virtualisation for your current and future workload capacity requirements.

The Report provides an accurate view of your organisation’s existing server inventory and how the server estate is performing within the current IT infrastructure, typically over a 30 day period.

The Castle team installs the Capacity Planner tool to a single location. It then sets about its task of automatically collecting the information it needs, from the physical servers and collates it into a versatile set of data ready for further analysis.

Castle Consultants feed the resulting performance data into the VMware Capacity Planner data warehouse where detailed analysis is performed and the resulting information assessed in line with industry benchmarks.

Our consultants then model simulations to provide you with the best route forward and all of the information you need to know about server virtualisation. Providing answers to questions such as how your existing server estate can be best utilised, how many virtual servers you will require and what physical server estate is required;in a full written report.

The VMware Capacity Planner tool includes a rich set of components that deliver integrated capacity planning functions, including data collection, data analysis, decision making and monitoring capabilities

:• The Data Collector: Installed locally atyour site by Castle Technical Consultants, this component discovers systems, collects detailed hardware and software inventory data and gathers key performance metrics required for capacity utilisation analysis.

• The Data Manager: We use this component to manage the data collection process, providing an organised view of the collected information, as well as administrative controls for the Data Collector. The Data Manager also “anonymises” and we securely send the collected data to the Information Warehouse.

• The Information Warehouse: Acentral hosted data warehouse where the data, which has been collected from your environment, is sent and prepared for analysis by Castle’s trained Consultants. Valuable industry benchmark data isalso utilised for benchmarking, scenario modelling and for setting utilisation thresholds.

• The Data Analyser: This component serves as the core analytic engine, which processes all the analysis required for intelligent capacity planning. It includes advanced algorithms that solve capacity optimisation problems and supports analysis capabilities such as aggregation, trending and benchmarking. Scenario modelling and what-if analyses help to model and test various planning scenarios, directed by Castle’s Virtualisation experts.
